About the Service

How do I get a quote? +

You can get a quote in two ways. Call us directly on 07593 103323 and we'll give you a figure over the phone in a few minutes. Alternatively, fill in the online quote form on our website and we'll call you back promptly — usually within the hour during business hours.

To provide an accurate quote, we'll need your vehicle's registration number, your postcode, and a brief description of the vehicle's current condition.

Is collection really free? +

Yes — collection is always free of charge within our standard coverage area across Coventry and the surrounding West Midlands and Warwickshire. There are no hidden fees, and the price we quote is the price you receive.

If you're located further afield, give us a call — we may still be able to help.

How quickly can you collect? +

We regularly offer same-day collection, subject to availability. Next-day slots are almost always available Monday through Saturday. When you contact us, we'll let you know the earliest slot we can offer and arrange a time that suits you.

Payment

How will I be paid? +

Payment is made by bank transfer on the day of collection. Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, it is illegal for scrap dealers to pay cash for vehicles. This law exists to deter vehicle theft and protect sellers.

You should have your bank account details ready on collection day. The transfer is typically processed within a couple of hours of the vehicle being collected.

Will the price change when you arrive? +

No. We provide a firm quote based on the information you give us, and that's the price you receive. We do not lower the offer on arrival — provided the vehicle is as described when you contacted us.

If you have significantly misrepresented the condition of the vehicle (for example, reporting it as complete when major parts are missing), we may need to renegotiate. We're always upfront about this.

Paperwork & DVLA

Do I need the V5C (logbook)? +

Having the V5C makes the process smoother, but it is not essential. We can still collect your vehicle without it. If you don't have the V5C, let us know when you enquire and we'll explain what alternatives are needed.

If you have the V5C, bring it on collection day. We'll fill in the relevant section together before the vehicle is removed.

Will you notify the DVLA? +

Yes. We notify the DVLA that the vehicle has been scrapped as part of our standard service. This removes the vehicle from your name, meaning you will no longer be responsible for vehicle tax or any future fines associated with the registration.

It's important this is done correctly — keeping a vehicle registered in your name after it has been scrapped can create legal complications.

What is a Certificate of Destruction and why do I need one? +

A Certificate of Destruction (CoD) is an official document issued by a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) confirming that your vehicle has been legally scrapped. It is required by law whenever an end-of-life vehicle is processed.

The CoD serves as your proof that the vehicle was disposed of responsibly. Keep it in a safe place — if any queries arise about the vehicle after scrapping (traffic camera fines, unpaid road tax notices etc.), it confirms you are no longer the owner.

Vehicle Condition

My car doesn't start — can you still collect it? +

Yes. We collect non-running vehicles regularly. When you book, let us know that the car is non-running so we can bring the appropriate equipment. There is no additional charge for collecting non-starting vehicles within our service area.

Can you collect a car with accident damage? +

Absolutely. We accept all types of damaged vehicles, including accident damage, fire damage, and flood damage. These are some of the most common reasons people scrap a car. Just describe the condition when you contact us so we can provide an accurate quote.

What if parts are missing from the vehicle? +

We still collect vehicles with missing parts — catalytic converters, engines, wheels, and so on. The quote will reflect the condition of the vehicle. It's important to be upfront about what is and isn't present so we can give you an accurate price from the start.

Identity & Legal Requirements

Why do you need photo ID? +

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 requires licensed scrap metal dealers to verify the identity of anyone selling a vehicle. A valid form of photo ID — such as a driving licence or passport — is required on collection day. This is a legal requirement and protects both parties.

Do I need to be present when the car is collected? +

Yes. The registered keeper or an authorised representative must be present for identity verification and to sign the necessary paperwork. If you are unable to be there in person, please contact us in advance to discuss options.
